Hey there!

I'm Eriks Svarcbergs

I'm a UX designer with a passion for integrating innovative design practices with accessibility to create intuitive experiences usable by wide audiences.

I've worked as a researcher in cognitive psychology -- a UX researcher and designer across healthcare and commerce applications -- and as an accessibility expert leading digital agency work across UX, CX, and Engineering teams.

As a first generation American raised in a bicultural household amid diverse communities, I am dedicated to understanding the needs and perceptions of diverse user groups and advocating on their behalf in business and design spaces.

My UX Passions

Coming from backgrounds in Biology and Cognitive Psychology, my passions in UX design center around the biological systems involved in perceiving and interacting with an experience, and the psychological elements involved in interpreting it.

When working on design challenges and solving problems I am interested in analyzing the intersection of user contexts and mental models -- figuring out how designs can work with user perceptions and behavioral patterns to most closely align with abilities and expectations. Integrating accessibility practices to create inclusive designs is the last piece of the puzzle I love solving for!

Hobbies & Interests

Music

Certifications (Maven Music School)
  • Music Production
    (Ableton)
  • Hardware Synthesis
    (Roland)
  • DJ-ing
    (Serato)
I grew up learning classical piano and attending classical concerts to gain an appreciation for musical culture.

After high school, where I participated in Classical as well as Blues & Jazz bands, I branched out into electronic music. I first started by teaching myself how to play Roland's Gaia SH-01 synthesizer, and my interest has only grown from there.

After training in hardware and software synthesis, as well as music production and DJ-ing techniques, I continue practicing through live sessions with bands in MA and NJ, as well as producing my own music and doing freelance production and editing.

Youth Education & Leadership

Boy Scouts of America
  • Eagle Scout
    (2010)
  • Assistant Scoutmaster
    (2011 - 2019)
As a member of Ewing New Jersey's Troop 15, I held six leadership positions, including Patrol Leader (twice) and Troop Senior Patrol Leader over my 10 year youth membership.

After passing all ranks, completing a final 'Eagle Scout Project', and passing a review board, I was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout with a bronze feather.

I continued my involvement with the troop in an adult role as Assistant Scoutmaster, where I planned and lead trips and hiking expeditions for the scouts, teaching them outdoor and life skills (until my hometown's unit was, unfortunately, dissolved).
